칸영화제 황금종려상 수상 감독의 리메이크작! 평화로웠던 여름휴가지에 찾아온 낯선 방문자!여름휴가를 맞아 별장을 찾은 앤(나오미 왓츠)과 조지(팀 로스) 가족은 해질녘 방문한 깔끔한 차림의 청년 피터(브래디 콜벳)를 맞이한다. 이웃이 보냈다며 달걀을 빌려달라는 그는 앤의 휴대폰을 물에 빠뜨리고 달걀을 깨뜨리는 등 미묘하게 그녀의 신경을 건드린다. 이내 피터와 같은 차림의 낯선 청년 폴(마이클 피트)이 등장해 가족의 심기를 더욱 불쾌하게 만들고 두 청년은 순식간에 조지의 다리를 부러뜨린다. 마침내 본성을 드러낸 두 명의 낯선 방문자들은 12시간 안에 일가족 모두 죽이는 게임을 벌이겠다고
